SMMUSD Summer Reading List 2006

Grades 4-5

Summer reading should be fun!

Summer reading should be fun. Santa Monica-Malibu USD reading lists provide guidelines in the selection of good books that children love. Not every good book is included, but the lists have something for every reader. Reading levels are suggestions only. No one is too old to read Rats on the Range by James Marshall and Homer Price by Robert McCloskey. Children can read many of the books, especially books in a series, by themselves. Others, like Rudyard Kipling’s Mowgli Stories and Chris Van Allsburg’s The Garden of Abdul Gasazi are perfect for you to read aloud. Most authors included on these lists have written more than one good book, and many, such as Sid Fleischman, Betsy Byars, Beverly Cleary, and Gary Soto, write for all ages.

Some titles are also available as audio books so families can listen to a good book.

Have a wonderful summer vacation, and read, read, read.

To make it easier to select a book to read for enjoyment, librarians from Santa Monica Public Library have indicated the genre in parentheses after the title. Please ask a librarian for help finding specific titles or other good books to read.
